Subramaniam who is also the Human Resource Minister stressed that there was no such matter discussed at high level meetings with Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders.

"The report is not right. May be the person who wrote the article had used an unreliable source," he said adding that the news portal should correct the report because it (report) could cause unnecessary repercussions to him and BN.

Subramaniam who visited a health screening camp at the Pekan Batu Anam multipurpose hall here, was asked to comment on the online news portal report that claimed that the incumbent in Segamat would not be nominated as a candidate in the coming 13th General Election.

He added that during discussions held with top BN leadership, 85 percent of MIC incumbents would be retained, while only a small fraction would see changes to strengthen BN's chances of winning.

In 2008, Subramaniam, who was then the Member of Parliament for Segamat, defeated DAP's Pang Hok Liong by 2,991 votes to retain his seat.

Subramaniam said as the Segamat Member of Parliament, he had gone down to the ground and worked with the people of all races, including the Chinese, to garner support for BN.

"Last night for example, we had a dinner function with about 1,000 Tiong Hua Chamber of Commerce members and I feel the people can judge for themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, speaking of the Health Camp, Subramaniam said about 500 people of all races were screened for diabetics and blood pressure while the people were also given various information on ways to lead a healthy lifestyle. -- BERNAMA
